Series’ Conclusions That Scare Me!

The Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl) topic for today was originally “Books That I Am Not Too Interested In Reading Anymore.” This would have been perfect except for I just deleted a bunch of books from my Goodreads list because I didn’t want to read them anymore. I didn’t want to read them anymore and so I obviously can’t remember a single one! I think this topic will do fine as a replacement because series are hard to read.

The first part–whether it be a book series or TV show, video game or movie– is always my favorite part. The example that randomly comes to my head right now is Supernatural. Dean and Sam had a character dynamic that I really enjoyed watching and the premise of the conflict was easy to understand, there’s baddies in different parts of the States and Sam and Dean needed to drive around and fix it.  Then what I like to call “the bigger picture” comes in, for Supernatural it is saving the world. After “the bigger picture” everything gets so complicated! It doesn’t ruin it for me but it does make it harder for me to enjoy and I have no problem with not continuing with a series if I don’t enjoy it. Therefore these are some series enders that I want to read but are at the biggest threat of lesser enjoyment.

Sever by Lauren Destefano

I thought the first book was really cool and then the second one was meh. I don’t know if I’ll get to this one. It’s still pretty and the world was super pretty even though it was terrible so we’ll see.

The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

This book suffers from reviews saying that it was not as good as the first two. I had the feeling when it came out that it wasn’t going to be. However, I think I probably will read it. It’s everything I secretly love in a YA book.

The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson

This one might be a no for me. I liked the first one but felt that the main character seemed really young in the second one. Not for me.

Boundless by Cynthia Hand

This one is ruined by the main character making choices that I did not agree with at all. Also I was burned out by all the angel infatuation when this book was released so who knows about this one.

Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake

I will read this one some day! It’s too creepy and cool to not be read by me!

Monsters by Ilsa J. Bick

I originally was going to say that I wasn’t going to finish this series. What started out as a promising zombie book became confusing and boring! However, the cover does draw me in again.

Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater

I’m sorry. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to this one. It will be the lost Steifvater novel to me.

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers

This book has everything! Historical fiction. Romance. Multifaceted Main Character. It will be read. I believe that I probably didn’t get to it at the time because it came out a while after the second installment.

Lion Heart by A. C. Gaughen

I will get to this book as well but this is a completely different case into why I didn’t read it. The first two were so good that I was unsure if this would match up. I guess I’ll just have to see.

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

I don’t think I’ll ever read this one. I tried and put it back down again after reading more than half because it just seemed like it was going to slog through a heavy war.

Let’s chat! What series are you thinking about abandoning? Which series will you never abandon ever?

Thanks for reading!

  1. The only series here I’ve read is the first Wither and the entire Laing Taylor series. I agree the Last was a slog… and it kind of just gets weird in the end, end. As for Wither… I have on my TBR but wasn’t very impressed by it… so not sure?! I easily discard series, lol. I have to be pretty compelled to risk the dreaded book 2 slump to keep reading… ♥️

I always feel compelled to finish series, so sometimes I stay away from books that I know have a long series. I’ve read several books so far this year though that I don’t feel like reading the followups, so I don’t think I’m going to.

I hardly ever finish series either.😂 I mean most of mine is just huge procrastination because I’m worried it’ll let me down?! I can literally stop watching a TV show that I DO love and leave it for like…a year before finishing the finale.😂 But anyyyyway. I’ve got several of my favourite series finishing up this year so *gulps* let’s how I actually read them. hehe. I thought Dreams of Gods and Monsters was a bit if a slog too, tbh, but still good!! And I also need to finish the Mara Dyer books!
